How to Intercept an Old Onshore Wellbore ?

An offshore well suffered a well control incident during the perforation. After multiple killing attempts, gas expressions at surface were observed around the platform. The rig was therefore evacuated, and all well kill operations were abandoned.
Following the blowout, PathControl was contacted to assist the Operator to design and execute the Relief Well.

During planning phase:

• Performing the target well trajectory analysis and recommended correction based on best advanced survey management techniques.
• Recommendations for survey program design to ensure accurate relief well wellbore positioning.

The goal of target well trajectory reconstruction process was to improve the wellbore accuracy and reduce the associated positioning uncertainty. This process is extremely valuable in terms of reducing the required number of magnetic ranging runs to achieve a successful “at first-attempt” intercept.
The magnetic ranging strategy was detailed and explained to the whole drilling team.
Full support on 15 ranging runs in total until the soft-touch was required as well as milling support.
